5 Ways to Style Sneakers for the Street
Most people own more sneakers than outfits that go with them. The fix isn't more shoes — it's five reliable formulas you can run on autopilot. Each one below works with a pair from our current range, so you can copy it exactly or swap in what's already in your closet.
1. The clean commuter
The look: straight-leg dark denim, a plain white or grey tee, an unlined overshirt or bomber, and a low-profile sneaker in one colour.
Why it works: everything is quiet, so the shoe gets to be the detail. Keep the hem sitting just on top of the shoe with no stacking.
Pair it with: Commuter Sneakers in Black & White or, for women, Classic White Suede Sneakers.
2. Tonal techwear
The look: tapered cargo pants in black or olive, a fitted long-sleeve, a lightweight shell jacket, and a mesh or knit sneaker with a sculpted sole.
Why it works: the sporty upper and the technical fabrics share a language. Stay in two or three shades of the same colour family and let the texture do the work.
Pair it with: German-Style Mesh Trainers in All Black or Army Green.
3. The chunky contrast
The look: slim or straight trousers, a loose knit or oversized hoodie, and a deliberately chunky sneaker.
Why it works: a bulky shoe balances a heavier top half. The rule is proportions: if the top is big, keep the trousers lean so the shoe has room to stand out.
Pair it with: Chunky-Sole Lace-Ups for men, or Retro Leather Platforms for women.
4. Court height
The look: cropped or cuffed trousers that show the ankle, a boxy tee or crewneck, and a high-top.
Why it works: a high-top is a design feature, not just a shoe — hiding the collar under a long hem wastes it. Cuff the trousers once or choose a cropped cut.
Pair it with: Cotton Candy High-Tops if you want colour, or High-Top Ankle Boots for something darker.
5. The weekend runner
The look: track pants or relaxed joggers, a fitted tee, a zip-through or coach jacket, and a colour-blocked running sneaker.
Why it works: this is the one outfit where a loud shoe is the point. Pull one accent colour from the sneaker into a cap, socks or jacket trim so it reads as intentional.
Pair it with: Colour-Block Mesh Runners.
Three rules that cover everything else
- Match the mood, not the colour. A sporty shoe with sporty clothes; a clean shoe with clean clothes. Colour matching is optional, mood matching isn't.
- Mind the hem. Trousers should either sit on the shoe or clear it entirely. Bunched fabric on top of a sneaker is the most common mistake.
- Keep them clean. A scuffed white sneaker undoes the whole outfit. Our care guide takes ten minutes and saves the shoe.
